Mission, Vision, & Values

Our Mission

Educating New York City children to serve and lead by knowing God and understanding His world.

Our Vision

MCA will be a model Christ-centered school with a Preschool through Grade 12 program that will meet the needs of NYC students and their families. A variety of spiritual, academic, social, cultural, and physical learning experiences that are challenging, relevant, and creative will make education productive, meaningful and attractive. All subject matter will be taught to our 1200 plus students from the Biblical perspective of creation, fall, and redemption.

Students will acquire wisdom, knowledge, and a Biblical worldview as evidenced by a lifestyle of character, leadership, service, stewardship, and worship. We will be a school that values the primacy of the family, covenanting with them in the education of their children including gifted and special needs. Racially and economically diverse families from the Metropolitan New York Area will attend our school, with sensitivity to immigrant, poor, and single parent families.

Our Values

The mission of MCA is deeply rooted in the following core values:

Primary Values

God:

We believe God is the greatest treasure in the universe. Therefore, we provide an education to students where God is loved and glorified as central and supreme in life's total experience. We are altogether dependent upon God for both the power to be good and do good.

The Bible:

We believe the Bible is the inspired, only infallible, authoritative word of God. Therefore, we thoughtfully integrate its teachings into every part of our community life and instruction.

The Kingdom of God:

We believe God's purpose for man is fulfilled in becoming a disciple of Christ. Therefore, we seek out teachers who are, above all, devoted to Christ, as they prepare a new generation of servant leaders who will reflect the values of the Kingdom of God to our city and our culture.

The Love of Christ:

We believe the Golden Rule implies that we should work for the same educational opportunities for the children of the city that we desire for the children of the suburbs. Therefore, we joyfully share with the poor in our midst the resources God has entrusted to us. “This is true religion that our God accepts as pure and faultless: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” (James 1:27)

Secondary Values

The Whole Child:

We believe God created children as body, mind, and spirit. Therefore we foster an educational program that addresses the needs of the whole child, including the spiritual dimension.

Discipline & Order:

We believe a child's education is enhanced by a disciplined and orderly environment. Therefore, our students will reflect order in their appearance, and we will vigorously promote the biblical virtues of kindness, politeness, respect, and self-discipline.

Reconciliation:

We believe God's purpose is to reconcile all things in heaven and earth together under Christ. Therefore, we will seek to preserve the unity of the spirit and create a school community that reflects the denominational, cultural, racial, and economic harmony which the Lord desires for the body of Christ.

Academic Excellence:

We believe demonstrated academic achievement is a true basis for community leadership and gaining access to opportunity. Therefore we regularly test for high standards of academic achievement. We also recruit outstanding teachers and use textbooks of the highest quality. Homework at the appropriate level is a mandatory requirement, and we implement a longer school year for students in grades K-8, and a longer school day for students for whom it is deemed necessary.

Partnership:

We believe God has given parents the primary responsibility for the education of their children. Therefore, we will value parents as genuine partners in their children's education, and we will actively seek to strengthen their involvement in the school wherever possible.

The City:

We believe the Bible instructs us to "seek the peace and prosperity of the city." (Jeremiah 29:7) Therefore, MCA will become a means of blessing and renewing the inner-city of New York and beyond, to the cities of our world.
