Tutoring
Each teacher provides a certain amount of free tutoring for their grade all subject area. Any child whose needs exceed this form of help is encouraged to participate in the FLOCK tutoring program.( link for Flock www.flock.vpweb.com)
Students can arrive at MCA from other schools and find themselves performing below our standards. MCA maintains a close relationship with a tutoring organization called FLOCK that operates on site accepting students that need tutoring. The tutors also run a summer school program to assist those for additonal instruction to move to the next grade. Both the tutoring and summer school program are offered at very reasonable cost.
FLOCK also tutors students during the day who require additional help in reading and math and run a homework clinic afterschool. See FLOCK link for additional informational.
Placement
MCA believes that students and their families must start to plan early for high school placement. Commencing in fifth grade parents are encouraged to attend seminars given at the school in preparation for choosing and getting into high school. Additionally, the tutors at MCA host an annual high school fair at the school where representatives from various city and nearby schools are present to discuss their schools with students and parents.
Some students with strong academic records may have an interest in eventually attending the more selective secondary schools. MCA maintains contact with organizations such as Chance, The Teak Fellowship, The Oliver Program, Prep 9, and the Boy's Club of New York, these organizations offer considerable placement assistance to students who qualify for the programs.
